How far would you go to chase your dream? Meet Jonathan Peter, the young actor who left his home in South Africa, to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. The Daily Fern caught up with Peter, to hear more about his aspirations and latest projects.
The Daily Fern: You are an actor and avid TikToker, What inspired you to pursue a career in entertainment?
Jonathan Peter: I’ve always wanted to make an impact in people’s lives. Been able to make an impact while still doing the thing I’m most passionate about has honestly been a dream come true. The fact that I can tell millions of people’s stories through a script or even just turn my phone on to record a video and send a message to millions of people around the world is so fulfilling.
The Daily Fern: You traveled to the U.S. from South Africa, in hopes of chasing your dreams. What was that move like for you?
Jonathan Peter: The move genuinely surprised me more than I thought it would have. I moved from a place where going to college and getting a corporate job was the norm and went to a place where almost every single person you meet is in the entertainment industry. Constantly being surrounded by likeminded people pushes your work ethic and just makes you even hungrier for what you do. I found the people very welcoming, it wasn’t hard to settle in. There are a lot of people from different parts of the world in Los Angeles so it’s always great to meet new people and learn about different cultures.
The Daily Fern: You are currently working on a christian series, what can you tell us about that?
Jonathan Peter: I’m working on a Christian series that I wrote, acted in and directed by myself which is a story about a young man staying faithful to his religion in today’s society. The main message I’m trying to portray is that it’s completely normal to sin and still have a relationship with God. None of us are perfect. The series itself is doing well with over 1.4 Million views since the pilot released just over a week ago. It’s amazing that I don’t have to travel the world to spread the word of God.
The Daily Fern: Are you currently working on any other projects? and if so, what can you tell us about it?
Jonathan Peter: I’m currently working on a criminal/investigative film which was all filmed during quarantine. The film is in post production with no official release date just yet. The filming process was definitely different to what any actor is used to having to do. We actually had to change the entire script of the film because of the Corona Virus but everything ended up working well in our favor.
The Daily Fern: Outside of entertaining, what are some other things you enjoy doing?
Jonathan Peter: It has to be sports. I was always an athlete growing up, you’d either find me on a soccer pitch or a tennis court. I still play sports every now and again for relaxation purposes.
