Singer and songwriter Laci Mercede is set to release a new song! We caught up with the young star to learn more about its release.
The Daily Fern: Along with with making your own music and running your own voice coaching business, you're also an actress. How do you manage to balance it all, and still stay motivated?
Laci Mercede: Organization is key. Everything I need to do is listed in my notes and placed properly in my calendar, even personal matters as well. Down time is also crucial. You need a mental break. You’ll know when you need it, everyone is different. Motivation normally comes to me after that, when I declutter my brain.
The Daily Fern: I listened to your song 'California' and loved it, can you tell us about that song? What was like working on it?
Laci Mercede: Thank you! My friend Robbie Dean and I wrote that song in September of 2019. We were in the studio and I was looking outside at the beautiful California sky and all the pretty flowers. We talked about how meaningful living in California is. So we just wrote about the beautiful state we get to live in; California. The song turned out to be super vibey. I’m super proud of it.
The Daily Fern: Are you currently working on any new projects, and if so, can you tell us about it?
Laci Mercede: I am getting ready to release an EP. The first single comes out this September/October 2020. I’m so ready for people to hear this music, it’s the best music I’ve made yet. I hope my lyrics speak to girls going through what I did, that’s really my intentions this time around.
The Daily Fern: What inspired you to pursue this career path?
Laci Mercede: I’m a big music fan, I always have been. My parents introduced me to so many genres growing up. I loved writing in school, and I always journaled. So writing songs sort of came naturally after that. Of course I wanted to sing the songs eventually. I really do love making music.
The Daily Fern: How have you been spending this time in quarantine?
Laci Mercede: I got an EP’s worth of songs finished and ready for release. I’ve really had so much time to focus on my music. But also, I have been doing a lot of inner work. I got really into meditating, journaling all my thoughts, and going on walks by myself. I know this has been a strange time for all of us, but I feel like I grew a lot. I’m very happy in my life right now. That feels nice.
