High School, Life and Hollywood: Inside Scoop with Tarik Ellinger

If you’re one of the hundreds of thousands of people who enjoyed the award-winning film ‘Love, Simon’ -- get ready -- because it’s creators are only months away from releasing a spinoff web series titled ‘Love, Victor’ in June.

The Daily Fern caught up exclusively with one of the show’s stars, Tarik Ellinger to talk about the show's premiere, and his life behind the scenes.

The Daily Fern: ‘Love, Simon’ was the first major Hollywood studio film focused on a gay teen romance and ‘Love, Victor’ is set to follow in its footsteps. How does it feel to be a part of such a ground-breaking series?

Tarik Ellinger: It’s really cool to be chosen to be a part of a series like this. I hope people love it as much as they did the movie. I am so grateful for this opportunity.

The Daily Fern: Can you tell us a little more about your character Ethan? Is it a recurring role?

Tarik Ellinger: Ethan is a good friend of Victor who is the main character. There is room for my character to be explored more and I am hoping you can see him in future Episodes.

The Daily Fern: Any takeaways from the show you’ve applied to your own life?

Tarik Ellinger: To be accepting of all people and to always be kind because you don’t know what they are going through.

The Daily Fern: What’s the best and most challenging part of acting?

Tarik Ellinger: The most challenging part is waiting after your auditions. The best part is meeting new people, having many new and unique experiences and the friendships you make.

The Daily Fern: On top of acting, you’re a model and a full-time student studying Film. How’s that going?

Tarik Ellinger: I am lucky I attend a school which allows me to study film. I love making films and being creative. I feel like it’s important to know all aspects of the industry. Modeling is fun and I like to experience the different styles of the photographers and the different places I have gotten to shoot campaigns for.

The Daily Fern: I watched your short horror film, The Library, which you directed, produced and starred in. What’s it like being behind the camera?

Tarik Ellinger: It can be difficult to create what you see in your head but it’s so fun and now I can see a project through the eyes of a director and what they want from me when I am acting in a project.

The Daily Fern: I applaud you for following your dreams! What’re your goals for the future? Any advice for others your age looking to do the same?

Tarik Ellinger: My goal is to be in a big movie or TV show. I really would love to be in Stranger Things 4. My advice is to be patient, passionate and keep working hard.

Be sure to look out for Ellinger in upcoming prints/billboards for The Secret Life of Pets ride at Universal Studios and the premiere of 'Love, Victor' in June 2020.
