We all crave happy and healthy skin! So, I sat down with two estheticians who explained how we can all step up our skin routines!
No matter what skin type you have, we should all have a skin care routine in place. Your skin care process doesn’t need to be 15 steps or even come close to double digits and can usually be done in about 5 minutes or less!
There are so many products out there that it can be hard to choose which ones you need. Well here are some tips to make it easier for you!
For daily use you will want to use the following in this order:
In the morning:
-Cleanser
-Moisturizer
-Sunscreen
Before Bed:
-Cleanser
-Moisturizer
Thats it!
The thing about skincare is it is so customizable to each person, meaning everyone is going to have different needs when it comes to skincare, so let's break down each product.

Cleanser:
Cleanser does as it says cleans your face from makeup, dirt and dead skin that can clog pores. The two main types are water based and oil based and both have their benefits. Water based is great for any skin type but especially oily skin. Oil based is great for both skin types too as it fights the oils and dirt that are present in oily skin and can help nourish skin prone to dry patches. Choosing a cleanser doesn’t have to be hard, just make sure you are using one that is alcohol free and is meeting your skin’s needs. You may even consider double cleaning!
What is double cleansing? Just like it sounds double cleansing is using both a water and oil based cleanser for your face. Start with an oil based cleanser to remove your makeup and sunscreen, then follow up with the water based to wash away dirt and clean out your pores. Double cleaning is super beneficial and will ensure you are getting all the days build up off of your face.

Moisturizer:
Moisturizer helps to balance out and hydrate your skin, and just like all skincare products depends on your skin's needs. There are many types of moisturizer all doing different things to boost your skin, such as Vitamin C moisturizer to brighten skin, or pore minimizing moisturizer. This comes down to preference and what you are looking to get out of a moisturizer. Also don’t forget overnight creams! These really help to lock in moisture and are great for dry skin! Sunscreen:
Sunscreen is the holy grail of skincare. You need to wear sunscreen all day everyday, no matter the weather. You do not need to wear special expensive sunscreen any price range will do just get it on your skin. This step is so important to protect your skin against the sun's rays and for long lasting benefits for your skin. For a more environmental and more natural option look into a mineral based sunscreen such as Sunbum or Supergoop.
Besides the three main steps make sure you exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week using a product that isn’t too abrasive. Check out Bliss Micro Magic for a scrub that will remove dead cells and build up and leave behind softer and smoother skin.

Another option for exfoliating is a chemical exfoliant, you apply the treatment to the skin and remove with warm water leaving behind healthy clean skin. Make sure to check out The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% peeling solution.
Final tips from my esthi-besties to ramp up your skin care routine:
Do use serums! They are super customizable and an easy way to add Vitamin C into your skin care routine. They are more expensive than other skin care products but are more concentrated and can help target your skin's specific needs.
Don’t use Witch Hazel as toner-especially by itself! It can strip and dry out your skin and more often than not contains alcohol!
Do use Anti-Aging products! Anti-aging products are preventative so it is never too early to start working them into your routine!
Don’t use alcohol on your skin! Make sure all your skin care products are alcohol free.
Do use facemasks! Cream, clay, and sheet masks are great for your skin! They help refine pores and are super beneficial- stay away from peel-off mask they can remove more than the dirt in your pores- like layers of your skin and the fine hairs that grow on your face!
And finally
Do see if you need a toner. They help balance your face’s pH and combat oil so make the right choice for your skin!
